I was somewhat confused whether i should paint on with chalk paint or roller it on. Well with a number of pieces of pine furniture in our bungalow i decided to attempt to change the look of all but one at a time and start with the smallest first. You can choose from a variety of chalk paint colours available including red flare authentic navy basic teal swedish blue toasted poppyseed or smokey eyes e t c. This will give the painted surface a beautiful and inviting vintage outlook.
That said i like to take a 120 to 220 grit sandpaper and give it a light sanding before applying a new coat of paint. My go to wood sealer is polyurethane but it s a finish that notoriously yellows. It s been two years since i chalk painted our kitchen cabinets. However most likely you are not painting over wax and will not need a primer.
However like any project chalk paint needs a protective finish. Originally i used annie sloan chalk paint in old white on the uppers and duck egg blue on the lower cabinets. If you are new around here i painted my kitchen cabinets with annie sloan chalk paint over 4 years ago now. Using wax on your project after applying.

Hi you chalk paint lovers wax users or not as the case may be. But adding clear wax first or mixing clear in with your dark will help you remove the extra dark wax if necessary.
